Leadership Elections will occur! (If interested in a leadership postion, contact the Scoutmaster!)

Tonight is the deadline to sign up for the February Campout at Powhatan and VT MB College payment.
Other Sign-Ups: 1) Feb. 27th Special Troop Field Trip, 2) Eagle Ceremony RSVP, 2) High Adventure Survey, 4) Paul Bunyon Days and 5) Pack 145 Pinewood Derby Volunteer
Fees for the VT MB College, the Feb. 27th VT Field Trip AND February Campout will be collected. PLEASE write a check or place cash in an envelope, On the check/envelope, please write Scout name and event(s) to reduce confusion and give full credit towards payment. If using Scout Account, please write "SA" in payment area of any sign-up sheet.
Troop Cooking Contests
To improve menu planning on campouts, the Troop will be developing a cookbook with recipes submitted by Boy Scouts. Each and every recipe will help Scout win prizes for themselves and their patrols. Details are available on FLYER. Bring in recipes on the below dates and based on the following themes:
01/02/12 - Breakfast - Winner Eric B. 01/09/12 - One-Pot/Dutch Oven - Aaron B. 01/16/12 - No-Cook*- Luke Daley
01/23/12 - Foil Packet - Cody Ha. 01/30/12 - Grilled - Cody Ho. 02/06/12 - Hot Lunch/Dinner
02/13/12 - Dessert
Scouts may submit as many recipes as they can research. Be sure that Scout name and patrol are written on each one.
*indicates that these recipes need to be emailed since there will be no Troop Meeting.
Don't forget the Iron Chief patrol vs. patrol competition during the February 24-25th Campout at Powhatan Reservation.

at Trinity Baptist Church - February 5th
WELL DONE to the 14 Boy Scouts who attended this church service! The Cooking MB Scouts did a great job on the spaghetti lunch that fed over 75 people! Thanks to Adult Leaders present to supervise! The Trinity parishioners were very impressed by Troop 42!

Invitation to Attend: Peter Forney Eagle Ceremony
on Friday, February 17th at 7:00 PM
Mr.& Mrs. Forney wish to invite the members of Troop 42 to this special celebration beginning at 7:00 PM in the Trinty Baptist Church sanctuary. Refreshments will be served after the formal ceremony. Scout Attire: FULL Class-A Uniform. RSVPs are needed on a sign-up sheet. Helpers for set up and take down would be appreciated.
VT Merit Badge College - Saturday, February 11, 2012
Cost = $5.00 + $2.00 bus fee for transportation (total $7.00) due 02/06/12.
The bus will leave promptly at 8:00 AM. Return transportation will be provided. ETA 5:00 PM.
With some MB sessions ending between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM, Scouts may bring $$$ to walk with Mrs. Bass to the nearby Burger King and McDonalds for a snack.
If parent needs to pick up Scout early, please call 320-1591 for instructions.

Each scout MUST bring a bag lunch with them as they will not be allowed to leave to purchase lunch; lunch will be consumed in the classroom. They must also bring blue cards*, writing utensils, paper, and a MB Worksheet*. (*Troop will provide).
1. Pre-requsites for this Emergency Prep MB is #1, #7, #8
2. Mr. Bass is teaching this MB along with the MCPS FRC Team 401 Hokie Guard!! There will be over 100 Scouts in this Merit Badge alone, so be prepared!

Sponsored by the Radford University CSAT STEM Club, RU professor will help Boy Scouts earn on of 6 possible merit
badges: Computers, Personal Management*, Chemistry, Indian Lore, Electronics, Communications*. Unlike the VT MB College, Boy Scout registers and attends on his own and pays a $4.00 fee. Registration form is available HERE. Deadline is 2/3/12.
Boy/Adult Scouts wearing their Full Class-A uniform and perfoming their best manners will attend a catered meal at the Inn at VT. Afterwards, Cooking MB Scouts will be touring the Inn's kitchen; Geology MBers will walk to the VT Geology Lab while Family MBers will tour Holtzman Alumni Center.
Cost: $10.00 Boy Scouts and Adult Leader are required to provide their own transportation to/from Inn at VT, sign-up and pay in advance.
for Pack 145 Pinewood Derby Volunteers
Sunday, March 4th at St. Paul UMC. Sign-up required for any 2-hours from 12 Noon - 7:00 PM.
The summer of 2013 will be offering some great adventures to Boy Scouts of certain ages and ranks. There will be a survey to indicate possible interest in one of these BSA locations, because there are high costs involved. The level of interst by February 6th will determine which adventure(s) the Troop will pursue, because reservations, committments and deposits will be due before April 2012 for the 2013 summer.

Paul Bunyan Day - March 10thThis is a Service Project opportunity to help Camp Alta Mons with projects. There are many possible futrure Eagle projects for consideration.
If interest in spending a day in Shawsville, please sign-up.
If enough Scouts, then Mr. Brumfield will arrange transporation.
